Nevada School Wellness Resource Guide
The idea for the Nevada School Wellness Resource Guide was developed in response to the passage of the Nevada School Wellness Policy and intimate understanding of the very difficult realities in K-12 school settings.
The concept of the guide was built around the need for practical Nevada-based working resources to assist individual school wellness coordinators in their efforts to create a healthier school environment. The resource is a Nevada document because the practical ideas which comprise it are from educators in Nevada’s schools.
Making this resources guide a Nevada based resource is a primary strategy to:
- Heighten the probability for its use.
- Reinforce effective wellness programming strategies.
- Provide models for effective practice.
- Show how barriers have been removed in other Nevada schools.
The resources guide is considered a working document because information to supplement the guide will be continually developed and disseminated.
Since contributors are identified, they receive public recognition and acknowledgement for their work and this may serve as additional incentive for schools to conduct effective wellness programming.
The resources guide will consist of cutting edge educational material, which will be useful in recruiting support and assistance from administration, faculty, staff, students and parents toward developing a healthier school environment. The guide will have a wealth of information and organizational structure ideas, which address how the eight components of Coordinated School Health can work more closely together to create a healthier school environment.
Production of the Nevada School Wellness Binder is made possible by the talent and time of several volunteers and experts. Funding was provided by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Southern Nevada Health District, and Senator Valerie Wiener.
