Causes of Asthma
Triggers are things that cause asthma attacks and are found inside and outside the home. Triggers inside the home can often be managed or eliminated to reduce the chance of causing an asthma attack. Asthma triggers are different from person to person. Triggers can include:
- Airborne allergens
- Pollen
- Animal dander
- Mold
- Cockroaches
- Dust mites
- Pets
- Respiratory infections, such as the common cold
- Physical activity (exercise-induced asthma)
- Cold air
- Air pollutants and irritants such as smoke
- Strong emotions and stress
- Nitrogen dioxide
