What is the History of LUCES?
Latinos Unidos Celebrando Salud (LUCES) is a community collaborative sponsored by the Southern Nevada Health District. It was founded as Latinos Together Against Disease (LTAD) in 2001 by a group of Hispanic health professionals.
What is the mission of LUCES?
LUCES is dedicated to empowering our communities to develop healthy lifestyles though information, education, and advocacy for the health of the Hispanic population in Clark County.
What are the objectives of LUCES?
- To ensure programs promoting healthy lifestyles are accessible to the Hispanic community.
- To educate the public on the prevention of chronic disease, including: cardiovascular diseases, asthma, allergies, emphysema, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, STD's, HIV/AIDS, and other important health issues in the community.
- To promote health programs that help reduce the incidence of tobacco use and raise awareness of the dangers of secondhand smoke in the Latino communities of Clark County.
