The President’s Council on Fitness Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) emonstration Center Project is a national initiative to promote and recognize elementary and secondary schools that clearly emphasize physical activity and fitness in their physical education programs.
Over the years, participation in this program has declined due to a variety of reasons. However, with the increase in childhood obesity and the need to raise awareness of the importance of quality Physical Education, the President’s Council has developed alliances with other organizations including the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and Governor’s Councils to help revitalize this project.
Locally, Partners for a Healthy Nevada (PHN), took the lead to re-establish the program in Southern Nevada. We know that while there are many constraints, many of our schools are doing an outstanding job providing quality Physical Education and we wanted to recognize those efforts.
Collaborating with PHN on this project are the University of Nevada, Cooperative Extension, the Southern Nevada Health District and the Clark County School District. We are grateful to current and past sponsors, 24 Hour Fitness, the Las Vegas location of the Athlete’s Foot and Sweet Tomatoes, for their generous contributions and support of this project.

Position Paper on Obesity
Obesity is a significant public health issue. If we are to be successful at reducing obesity and overweight in our community, we must work together to create environments and policies that support healthy eating and daily physical activity and work collaboratively to provide information, education and resources on healthy eating and opportunities for daily physical activity.
PHN’s White Paper on Obesity PDF (453 KB) outlines the problem and lists the actions they support to help reduce obesity in Clark County.
- Community Events
PHN participates in and supports at least one community event each year related to obesity-prevention. Our members staff an interactive booth and provide nutrition and physical activity information to parents and kids.
